The West Bengal government is awaiting a detailed roadmap from the Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) on how it plans to revive and reposition the 118-year-old exchange. The CSE board is expected to discuss its future strategy and next steps.
The proposed revival follows the West Bengal government's announcement of support for bringing CSE back to active trading, with the broader objective of strengthening Kolkata's position as a financial hub and improving capital access for businesses in eastern India.
A key challenge remains regulatory approval and the creation of a commercially viable trading model. CSE has been largely inactive as an independent exchange for years, making liquidity, technology, investor participation and compliance critical to any revival plan.
The board's upcoming strategy discussions could therefore provide greater clarity on how CSE intends to restart operations, attract participants and position itself alongside NSE and BSE.
