₹40,000 Cr defence project approved: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a project worth over ₹40,000 Cr for the construction of eight Next-Generation Corvettes for the Indian Navy. The contracts are expected to be signed with GRSE and Goa Shipyard Limited in the coming days.
GRSE and Goa Shipyard to build warships: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) will jointly execute the project. GRSE is expected to construct five corvettes, while GSL will build the remaining three, providing significant order opportunities for both shipyards.
Strengthening India's defence capabilities: The next-generation warships are designed to strengthen maritime security, surveillance and coastal defence capabilities. The programme also supports India's focus on indigenous defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on foreign defence equipment.
Long-term revenue visibility: The project could strengthen the order books of both shipyards and provide multi-year revenue visibility through construction and delivery milestones. The first vessel is expected to be delivered by 2030, indicating a long execution cycle.
Key monitorable: Investors should track the formal contract signing, order allocation between GRSE and GSL, construction timelines, execution progress and the impact of the new orders on revenue, operating margins and working capital.
