Goa Shipyard (GSL) is planning to establish a new shipbuilding and ship repair facility at Jaigarh, Maharashtra, as part of its long-term expansion strategy to support India's growing maritime and defence ambitions.
The proposed greenfield facility will be developed on nearly 100 acres and is currently in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage. It is expected to significantly enhance GSL's capacity to build larger and more complex vessels.
The expansion aligns with the Government of India's Atmanirbhar Bharat and Maritime India Vision initiatives, which aim to strengthen domestic shipbuilding capabilities and position India among the world's leading shipbuilding nations.
The additional facility will complement GSL's existing shipyard in Goa, enabling the company to execute a larger order book, reduce delivery timelines, and cater to increasing demand from both defence and commercial customers.
The project is expected to support GSL's long-term growth by expanding its manufacturing footprint, improving operational flexibility, and strengthening India's indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.
