If you invest in listed or unlisted securities, your demat account (often with CDSL or NSDL) is where electronic balances live. The steps below are written for CDSL-linked accounts and are meant to reduce confusion between Easi (mostly view and information) and EASIEST (adds online instruction flows for certain actions, depending on what your DP supports).
After you are comfortable reading statements, many investors also compare pre-IPO and unlisted opportunities in one place using the Precize screener. For platform-specific doubts, start with the Precize FAQs or reach Precize Care.
CDSL (Central Depository Services (India) Limited) is one of India’s two central depositories (the other is NSDL). It maintains electronic records of securities for investors who hold accounts through Depository Participants such as banks and brokers. CDSL does not replace your DP: your DP is your day-to-day service interface for trades, while the depository maintains ownership records at the ISIN level.
For regulatory context and investor alerts, SEBI publishes materials on market infrastructure and investor protection on SEBI.
Easi is the common route to view balances, statements, and basic servicing flows offered through CDSL’s investor interface. EASIEST extends into electronic instruction capabilities for eligible transactions, subject to DP and account setup. If your goal is only “how do I see my shares in CDSL?”, start with Easi registration and login; add EASIEST only if your DP asks you to use it for specific debit instructions.
Active demat account with a DP on CDSL (your welcome kit or contract note usually states CDSL).
BO ID split: 8-digit DP ID and 8-digit client ID (together 16 digits). Do not confuse the 8-digit client ID with a “16-digit client ID”; the full demat number is 16 digits in total.
Mobile number and email registered with your DP (used for OTP and service messages).
PAN and date of birth handy for CAS or verification steps.
A modern browser and stable connection. OTP messages are time-bound, so keep the phone nearby.
These steps follow the public CDSL workflow as of early 2026. If a screen label changes, trust the official site paths from CDSL India and the login host My Easi.
Go to https://www.cdslindia.com/. Use bookmarks you create yourself; avoid links from random SMS or email senders.
Use the site navigation to reach My Easi / Easi / EASIEST login (wording may read EasiEasiest on the token portal). The login page is typically served from web.cdslindia.com paths such as My Easi login.
Choose registration for Easi (or EASIEST if that is what your DP requires). Enter your BO details (DP ID and client ID), complete OTP verification, and set a strong password per the on-screen rules. Save credentials in a password manager, not in screenshots or chats.
Enter DP ID, client ID, and password. Complete OTP when prompted. If you use multiple devices, note any device binding limits shown on screen.
Inside the logged-in area, open holdings or an equivalent statement view. You should see ISIN-wise balances and free vs pledged distinctions where applicable. Pledged balances may still “show” as held while lien is active; read labels carefully.
Most investors check balances fastest on the DP platform because it sits next to funds, orders, and margin information.
Log in to your broker or bank website or app.
Open Demat / Portfolio / Holdings.
Verify ISIN, quantity, pledge status, and corporate actions notes.
Download a holdings or transaction statement for your records if needed.
If something disagrees between DP and CDSL views, start a ticket with the DP; they reconcile with CDSL records operationally.
The Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) helps when you want a single file across multiple demat accounts and certain mutual fund folios mapped to the same PAN / investor grouping per depository and RTA rules. Practical points:
CAS is useful for tax prep, portfolio reviews, and catching idle folios.
Delivery frequency depends on whether there were transactions in a period; dormant accounts may get less frequent statements. Treat any rule you see on CDSL / NSDL CAS pages as the source of truth for the current cycle.
CAS access is often offered from the CDSL login menu (for example flows labelled around CAS / bonafide services). Complete PAN, demat details, and OTP carefully.
OTP not received
Check airplane mode, DND, and SMS filters.
Confirm the same mobile is updated at the DP.
Wait one cool-off window, then retry. Avoid hammering resend.
Password errors
Use forgot password on the official portal only.
If locked after multiple tries, follow CDSL guidance or call the CDSL helpdesk numbers listed on CDSL India (keep PAN and demat details ready).
Server or page errors
Try another browser, disable problematic extensions, and clear cache for the CDSL site only if you know how.
Corporate VPNs sometimes block financial hosts; test on a stable home connection.
Device binding messages
Log out from an old device or de-register per on-screen instructions before adding a new one.
Type URLs or use saved bookmarks for CDSL and your DP. Phishing domains often look close to the real spelling.
Never share OTP, passwords, or PINs. No legitimate desk asks for them.
Turn on every DP security feature you can (2FA, app lock, SIM lock).
Reconcile monthly: DP holdings, CDSL view, and CAS should tell a consistent story over time.
CDSL publishes investor-focused updates on its official CDSL YouTube channel. SEBI also hosts investor awareness clips that explain demat, CAS, and safety practices in plain language.
You can check CDSL demat holdings in three dependable ways: CDSL My Easi for depository-level detail, your DP platform for everyday monitoring, and CAS for consolidated reporting. Keep KYC contact data current, prefer official URLs, and reconcile statements regularly so problems surface early.
